The working mechanism of the magnetic powder clutch is: when the active rotor rotates and the coil is not energized, the magnetic powder in the working gap and the powder storage chamber is pressed onto the inner wall of the active rotor under the centrifugal force, and therefore, the main and driven rotors are in a disengaged state. The driven rotor does not rotate. When the excitation current is applied to both ends of the coil, the magnetic powder particles in the working gap are magnetized under the action of the magnetic field to form a "magnetic powder chain". When the active rotor rotates, the electromagnetic force between the magnetic powders is maintained. The resulting friction forces the torque from the active rotor to the driven rotor.

The torque that the magnetic powder clutch can transmit is determined by the shear strength of the magnetic powder chain, and the shear strength increases with the increase of the magnetic field strength until the magnetic saturation. When the excitation current is large enough, the driven rotor is synchronized with the active rotor. run. When the excitation current changes within a certain range, the driven rotor and the active rotor are not synchronized, and the slip operation is performed.
At present, magnetic powder clutch has been widely used in papermaking, printing, plastics, rubber, textile, printing and dyeing, wire and cable, metallurgy and other related winding and winding tension control. In addition, the magnetic powder clutch can also be used for buffer starting, overload protection, speed regulation and the like. Magnetic powder brakes are also often used for dynamometer loading and braking of transmission machinery.
