The braking torque of simple and differential belt brakes is related to the direction of rotation, which limits the scope of application. Poor heat dissipation, suitable for large machinery, requiring compact braking, such as braking of machine tools, mobile cranes, winches, etc.
The block brake has a simple and reliable structure and general heat dissipation. The pads have a sufficient and uniform back-off distance and are easy to adjust. For a straight brake arm structure, the braking torque is independent of the steering of the brake shaft, and the brake shaft is not affected. Bending stress, but the wrap angle and braking torque are small, the manufacturing is more complicated than the band brake, the lever system is complicated, and the size is large. Block brakes are the most widely used and are mainly used on machinery that frequently works and has a large installation space, such as lifting and transportation, metallurgical machinery.
The inflated shoe brake uses two built-in brake shoes to press the brake drum radially outward to generate braking torque. Compact structure, good heat dissipation and easy sealing. Most of them are normally open and are often used in places where installation space is limited. They are widely used for braking of wheeled cranes and various vehicles (such as automobiles, tractors, etc.)
The disc brake uses the axial pressure to compact the disc or conical friction surface to achieve braking. When the full-disc or spot-disc arrangement is symmetrical, the brake shaft is not subject to bending forces. The structure is compact, the pads wear evenly, and the braking torque is independent of the rotation direction. When used for dust and moisture protection, it can be made sealed. The spot type heat dissipation is good, and the whole type is poor. It is especially suitable for occasions with high requirements on compactness, such as electric wheel hoists of vehicles.
The magnetic powder brake uses the internal force generated when the magnetic powder is magnetized to brake. Small size, light weight, small excitation power and braking torque have nothing to do with the rotating speed of rotating parts, magnetic powder will cause parts to wear. Mainly used for braking (adjustable braking torque), precise positioning, test loading, tension control, etc.
The eddy current brake is durable, easy to maintain and has a large adjustment range. However, at low speeds, the efficiency is low and the temperature rises, and heat dissipation measures must be taken. It is often used in machines with vertical loads (such as the lifting mechanism of a lifting machine) to absorb the functions before parking to reduce the load of the parking brake.
The types of brakes are many and complex, and they will play an important part now and in the future. Magnetic powder brakes occupy the mainstream. The continuous evolution of industry also represents the continuous change of human extension, but no matter how evolved, don't use the accelerator as a brake.
