3 Major Categories Of Torque Sensors

- Aug 22, 2019-

The torque sensor is mainly used to measure various torques, speeds and mechanical efficiencies. It converts the change of torque into an electrical signal whose accuracy is related to the accuracy of the test system. Its main feature is that it can measure the static torque as well as the rotating torque and dynamic torque. It has high detection precision, good stability and strong anti-interference. It can continuously measure the positive and negative torque without repeated zero adjustment. Ring and other wear parts can run at high speed for a long time; it outputs high frequency signal and can be sent directly to the computer for processing. Torque changes in mechanical power equipment are important information about their operating conditions.

Today, Xiaobian will talk to you about the three major categories of torque sensors. Let's take a look at it.

3 major categories of torque sensors

1. Non-contact torque sensor

The non-contact torque sensor is also a dynamic torque sensor, also called a torque sensor, a torque speed sensor, a rotary torque sensor, and the like. Its input shaft and output shaft are connected by a torsion bar, the input shaft has a spline, and the output shaft is a keyway. When the torsion bar is twisted by the turning moment, the relative positions of the spline and the keyway are changed, and they are changed. The relative displacement change amount is the twist amount of the torsion bar. Such a process causes the intensity of the magnetic induction on the spline to change and is converted into a voltage signal by the coil.

The non-contact torque sensor is characterized by long life, high reliability, low wear resistance, less time delay, less influence by the shaft, and wider application.

2. Strain gauge torque sensor

The strain gage torque sensor uses strain electrical measurement technology. Its principle is to use the elastic shaft and paste the strain gauge to form the measuring bridge. When the elastic shaft is slightly deformed by the torque, the resistance value of the bridge will change, and the electrical signal will change to realize the torque measurement.

The strain gauge torque sensor is characterized by high resolution, small error, large measuring range, low price, easy selection and heavy use.

3. Phase difference torque speed sensor

The phase difference torsion sensor is a torsion angle phase difference sensor. Its principle is to study the magnetoelectric phase difference torque measurement technology. Only two gears with the same number of teeth, shape and installation angle are installed at both ends of the elastic shaft. Install the proximity sensor. When the elastic shaft rotates, the waveforms of the two sets of sensors produce a phase difference, thereby calculating the torque.

Its main feature is the non-contact transmission of the torque signal, the detected signal is a digital signal, and the rotational speed is high. However, such a torque sensor is bulky, and the performance at low speed is not ideal, so the application is not very extensive.

In addition, high-performance wireless torque sensors are commonly used, and combined with wireless communication technology to achieve wireless data transmission.
