Common Faults And Solutions To Core Chucks

- Oct 28, 2024-

The core holders is a new type of fixture, which shrinks and opens the chuck through gas pressure to achieve the purpose of clamping the workpiece. It is mainly composed of mechanical chuck body, clamping gas path, leakage gas path and other parts, when the gas path is filled with gas, the gas generates a certain pressure in the chuck body, so that the chuck shrinks and clamps the workpiece; Conversely, if the gas in the gas path is discharged, the pressure in the chuck decreases, and the pushing mechanical core chuck will open to release the workpiece, and the leakage gas path is designed to maintain the pressure in the gas path to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the clamping. Inflatable chucks can be divided into various types such as flat push type, flange type, and sliding type according to different structures and uses, and each type has its specific application scenarios and advantages.

1) Air leakage problem
Causes:
Hose quality problems: The hose itself of the inflatable chuck is not of good quality, and there are defects such as sand holes and cracks, and air leakage will occur after inflation.
Seal Problems: Seals are aged, damaged, or improperly installed, resulting in gaps in the fit with the inflatable chuck, and gas leakage.
Valve problems: The valve is not installed securely, the seal is not tight, or the valve itself is damaged, causing gas to leak from the valve.
Loose pressure ring: Long-term use or affected by vibration and other factors, the pressure ring may loosen, resulting in gas leakage.
Solution(s):
Hose replacement: If the hose quality is a problem, you need to remove the shaft head and replace it with a new hose with good quality and suitable specifications.
Replace or install the seal correctly: Check the condition of the seal and replace it in time if it is damaged or aged. When installing the seal, make sure it is in place and drizzle a ring of sealant over the surface of the seal to enhance the sealing effect.
Replace the valve: If the valve is leaking, replace it with a new one and make sure it is securely installed.
Tighten the pressure ring: Check whether the pressure ring is loose, if it is loose, tighten it.

2) The chuck cannot be clamped or the clamping force is insufficient
Causes:
Air supply problems: insufficient air pressure, blocked air duct or air leakage, resulting in the inflatable chuck not getting enough air pressure to achieve clamping.
Internal fault of the chuck: The airbags, pistons and other components inside the chuck are damaged or worn, which affects the normal operation of the chuck and reduces the clamping force.
Workpiece size problem: The size of the workpiece is beyond the scope of the inflatable chuck, resulting in the chuck not being able to clamp the workpiece effectively.
Solution(s):
Check the air source: Check whether the pressure of the air source is normal, clean or replace the air source pipeline, and ensure that the air supply is unimpeded.
Repair or replace the internal parts of the chuck: open the inflatable chuck, check the condition of the airbag, piston and other parts, and repair or replace it if it is damaged or worn.
Choose the right inflatable chuck: According to the size and weight of the workpiece, choose the appropriate size of the inflatable chuck to ensure that its clamping force can meet the work requirements.

3) The chuck is not released smoothly or cannot be released
Causes:
Stuck inside the chuck: The parts inside the chuck may be stuck due to long-term use or the influence of foreign objects, resulting in the chuck's inability to loosen.
Air pressure problems: If the air pressure is too high or too low, it may cause the chuck to loosen smoothly.
Control system failure: The solenoid valve, switch and other control system components that control the inflatable chuck are faulty, which affects the release operation of the chuck.
Solution(s):
Cleaning and servicing the chuck: Take the inflatable chuck apart, clean the foreign matter inside, and check the parts for wear or deformation. If there is a problem, repair or replace.
Adjust the air pressure: check whether the air pressure of the air source meets the working requirements of the inflatable chuck, and adjust the air pressure to the appropriate range.
Check the control system: check whether the control system components such as solenoid valves and switches are working normally, and repair or replace them if there is a fault.

4) The accuracy of the chuck decreases
Causes:
Wear and tear of parts: The parts inside the chuck will wear out after long-term use, resulting in a decrease in the accuracy of the chuck.
Improper installation: The incorrect installation position or firm installation of the inflatable chuck will affect the accuracy of the chuck.
Solution(s):
Replace worn parts: regularly check the parts inside the chuck, and replace them in time if there is serious wear to ensure the accuracy of the chuck.
Correct installation of the chuck: according to the installation requirements of the inflatable chuck, install the chuck correctly, and ensure that it is installed firmly, in the installation process, pay attention to the accuracy requirements such as the coaxiality of the chuck and the machine tool spindle.

Inflatable chucks are widely used in industrial automation and machinery manufacturing, and the common application scenarios are as follows:
1) Printing and packaging industry
Slitting Machines and Printing Machines: In the printing and packaging process, inflatable chucks are often used to fix and clamp paper, film and other materials to ensure the stability and accuracy of materials during printing, cutting or slitting.
Rewinders & Coaters: In the rewinding and coating process, the inflatable chuck grips the paper or film rolls tightly for efficient winding and unwinding operations.
2) Textile and printing and dyeing industry
Textile machinery: In textile machinery, inflatable chucks are used to clamp textile materials such as yarn and cloth to ensure the stable transmission and processing of materials in the process of weaving, printing and dyeing.
Printing and dyeing equipment: In the printing and dyeing process, the inflatable chuck can be used to fix the cloth to ensure that the dye is evenly attached to the cloth and improve the quality of printing and dyeing.
3) Paper industry
Papermaking machinery: In the papermaking process, the inflatable chuck is used to clamp the paper to realize the continuous transmission and processing of the paper, and its high-precision clamping and loosening operation can ensure the flatness and processing accuracy of the paper.
4) Plastics and rubber processing industry
Plastic film making machinery: In the production process of plastic film, the inflatable chuck is used to clamp the film roll to realize the continuous production and rewinding of the film.
Rubber processing equipment: In the production of rubber products, the inflatable chuck can be used to clamp the rubber material to ensure stability and accuracy during processing.
5) Other industries
Rotary printing machines and slitting machines: In the rotary printing and slitting process, the inflatable chuck is used to clamp and transfer the printed matter or the material to be slit.
Plate-making, foil-making, film-making, tanning, coating, laminating paper tube machines, etc.: equipment in these industries also often uses inflatable chucks to grip and transfer various materials to ensure a smooth production process.
